SimVentions Goes to Haiti for 6th Annual Missions’ Trip

By Taylor Duffy

SimVentions employees just returned from Plaisance, Haiti for their 6th annual missions’ trip. SimV’s Lindsey Biggs, Debbie Nicholson, and Taylor Duffy went to the small town in the mountains to go and give medical help to the less fortunate from February 20 – 27. The team was small this year due to the pandemic, but that didn’t stop them from doing big things in the community.

The team held a full day medical clinic in Plaisance and two additional towns nearby. Between the three clinics, they were able to see over 650 patients. They were even able to help 141 people with dental care, making this the first time having a dentist at the SimV clinics! Because of generous donations from friends and family at home, they were able to give many gifts to the locals. They gave 40 families a one month supply of food, all 300 members of the church received lunch and flip flops, two children a bike, one family a motorcycle to start a business, and 8 children a pair of shoes that they picked out at the market. One family in desperate need is even having a home built for them because of the team’s generosity.

The team cherishes the quality time they spend with the locals. One such example is making crafts with children at the school and just being with those at the elderly home. The team members feel forever touched by some of the situations they find themselves in on these trips.

Haiti and its people have a special place in the hearts of these individuals that go back each year. Because Plaisance is six hours into the mountains, only a few teams go each year. This team is the only consistent one, so the locals can never wait for them to come back! They are excited and ready to plan next year’s trip, February 19 – 26, 2022. Thank you to everyone that gave through money, prayer, and other kinds of support. It means the world to the team, and even more to Haiti’s locals!

How to Help

If you feel led to help this small community in Haiti, consider donating to Fondation Leopold Luc Guillaume. This is the town’s school that took a big hit from the lack of donations during the pandemic. They are no longer able to feed the children at school and there is only enough money in the budget to keep the school running until April.
