First Annual CNEW Women’s Symposium

Fredericksburg, VA., 03-25-2022: “In the future there will be no female leaders. There will just be leaders.” (Sheryl Sandberg). SimVentions’ COO Megan Shepherd was among the three featured speakers for the 1st annual Chamber’s Network of Enterprising Women (CNEW) Women’s Symposium. Other speakers included Susan Coleman of Spotsylvania Medical Center and Tatum Sheppard, Miss Virginia 2021. The event was attended by a full capacity crowd in the Club Area at the Virginia Credit Union Stadium, Home of the Fredericksburg Nationals. The CNEW Women’s Symposium is designed to bring women of the business community together, equip them with skills to be successful in life and business, inspire them to be their best, and renew their spirit.

Megan presented on the Importance of Women in Executive Leadership to symposium attendees. Sharing her experiences on how women bring different perspectives, diversity, and effective communication to a leadership team. She engaged the audience in feedback on the qualities and strengths women in business possess: emotional intelligence, problem solving skills, creativity, and empathy. Megan weaved many personal experiences throughout the entire presentation, with one particular moment in time where she was compelled to accept an unexpected offer in a matter of 30 seconds. The opportunity she embraced at that moment directly impacted her career path and ultimately her rise to COO with SimVentions. To complete the session, Megan gave a call to action to those in attendance to practice confidence, embrace opportunities, take a seat at the table, excel at what you do and to be yourself.

Several employees from the Women in Leadership (WIL) Group of SimVentions were in attendance. SimV employee and lead of the WIL group, Sally Shea had the following to share, “It was an honor to hear Megan speak; what really resonated with me was her emphasis on the importance of stepping up to take a seat at the table and having the confidence to own that spot.  She reminded us that women bring a different, valuable perspective to leadership because of our unique set of challenges and life experiences combined with a strong set of soft skills that make us strong problem solvers and exceptional at developing relationships.”

As we near the end of Women’s History month, let us celebrate all that women like Megan bring to the professional realm, uplift one another, and provide mentorship and coaching opportunities to those paving their own trail of success.
