Day of Service 2023

SimVentions recently completed its 9th Annual Day of Service with activities and donation collections in Fredericksburg, Woodford, Virginia Beach, and Huntsville, AL.! Individual efforts included donations to the Washington Heritage Museum, the Brisben Center, the Zoe Freedom Center, Hope House, Beauty for Ashes, Servants at Work (Fredericksburg location), the Samaritan House (Virginia Beach), and Love Packages (Huntsville). On October 9th, employee-owners and family members gathered in eight different locations in Fredericksburg and Virginia Beach to make a difference. A team in Huntsville, AL, gathered earlier in the month at Love Packages.

SimVentions’ volunteers painted the interior of the Mary Washington Monument’s Caretaker’s Lodge. The lodge was built in 1897 in Fredericksburg and is currently undergoing extensive renovations. Our volunteers painted bathrooms, bedrooms, stairwells, the kitchen, and meeting space all in one Day of Service.

At the Brisben Center, employees worked on various landscaping projects. The Brisben Center is the greater Fredericksburg community’s largest full-service, year-round, residential emergency homeless center. It provides a safe, secure, staffed 24-hour temporary residence for the homeless 365 days a year. It can simultaneously serve up to 80 homeless women, children, and men with a wide range of services.

The Zoe Freedom Center envisions, “A world where anyone who seeks freedom from addiction would find it, realize their God-given purposes, and lead productive, fulfilling lives.” They provide certified substance abuse counseling, Narcan training and doses, group meetings, and other resources free of charge to individuals seeking freedom from addiction in the Fredericksburg area. SimVentions’ volunteers helped set up and assemble multiple pieces of office and storage furniture.

Volunteers brought an arsenal of tools to Loisann’s Hope House for landscape work. Volunteers cut, trimmed, dug, pulled, scrubbed, and cleaned the landscape at the house. Loisann’s Hope House is the Fredericksburg region’s oldest and largest family homeless shelter. It opened its doors in 1987, more than 30 years ago!

Eight dedicated SimVentions employees and family went to Beauty for Ashes women’s home in Fredericksburg to provide the hands and feet to SimVentions’ motto, “Your Success is Our Honor.” They worked side by side with the staff and some residents for several hours. An array of outside project work ranged from mulching, weeding, edging, and pruning many floral beds; to power-washing multiple buildings; staining decks and stairways; and even hanging strings of lights around the campfire. These improvements not only bless the current residents and staff, but they are significant in helping prepare the property for an upcoming event on October 26 to celebrate the ministry.

Team SimV sent 11 volunteers who provided the materials and built a ramp for a Fredericksburg family through Servants at Work, also known as SAWs®. “SAWs® is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing freedom to people with permanent disabilities in low-income households through the construction of wheelchair ramps. Our ramps serve as their gateway to the world, re-opening connections with neighbors and the larger community while providing independence and accessibility.”

Virginia Beach employees cleared out and revamped the entranceway of the VB Samaritan House’s offices. Samaritan House is committed to fostering personal safety, growth, and self-sufficiency in adults and their children through freedom from sexual assault, domestic violence, human trafficking, and homelessness. “Since 1984, Samaritan House has provided emergency and permanent housing, support services, and community outreach to victims of domestic violence and homeless families.”

In Huntsville, AL, SimVentions employees sorted and packed Christian literature for shipping to foreign mission fields. Love Packages is a non-denominational, not-for-profit ministry that equips pastors, missionaries, evangelists, and teachers all over the world with free Bibles and Christian literature.
